Testing the Most Viral “One Pot” Tik Tok Recipes

I’ve been seeing these one pot meals pop up on the internet for years now but the truth is I generally don’t cook with just one pot at a time. Usually when I’m in the kitchen I’ve got a few pots and pans going at once because I love ease. You know, I love simplicity. However, nothings easier than throwing a bunch of things into one pot and getting something delicious on the other side.So today what I’m going to do is try out the most viral meals on Tik Tok. I’ve scrolled through thousands of these recipes. I’m really looking for the ones that are intriguing. Ones that really stand out so I can test them in real life to see if the one pot meals live up to the hype. In today’s video I tried out a lemon pasta, one pot marinara, chicken & rice, & chili garlic noodles! Click here for the full recipe.

The Lemon Temptress

Ingredients:

  • Skin of 1 lemon
  • A couple of citrus leaves
  • 4 cups of water
  •  8 ounces of spaghetti
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons of grated aged provolone

Instructions:

  1. In a pot filled with 4 cups of water add in the lemon peel & citrus peel. Bring to a boil and then shut it off. Save until ready to use.
  2. Strain out the leaves & peel & pour the water, back into the pan and bring to a boil. Add in 8 ounces of spaghetti along with some salt & olive oil. Cook until al dente, if you need more water add it.
  3. Once the pasta is cooked, you should have some starchy water in the pan. Zest in lemon zest & grate in some aged provolone, toss to make creamy. Serve while hot.

Chicken & Rice

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of chicken drumsticks
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of whole peppercorn
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 yellow potatoes, peeled
  • 2 -3 carrots
  • 1 cup of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 jalapeno
  • 1 1/2 cups of rice
  • 2  cups of chicken stock
  • Handful of fresh cilantro

Instructions:

  1. In a pan, add in some oil and drop in your chicken legs that have been seasoned with a touch of salt.
  2. While the chicken legs are cooking, add the salt, cumin seeds, peppercorn, & garlic in a mortar and pestle & start pounding. Once you have your paste, add in some water and mix to loosen everything up.
  3. Then get all your veggies prepped, peel & chop your carrots, potatoes, cherry tomatoes & jalapeños. Set aside.
  4. Once the chicken legs are seared on all sides, take them out and set aside. With the oil left in the pan, add in the rice and toast for 2 minutes.
  5. Then add in the cherry tomatoes to emulsifying them in before you add all the veggies, seasoning mix, & chicken stock.
  6. Bring to a boil, then turn it down & and cover. In the meantime, chop up some cilantro and top off your chicken & rice with the herbs once it’s done!

Chili Garlic Noodles 

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack of noodles
  • 1/4 cup of oil
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of black vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of chopped ginger
  • 1 1/2  teaspoon of chopped garlic
  • big pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 stalk of scallion, chopped 

Instructions:

  1. In a pot of boiling water, add in your noodles & cook until al dente. Place the cooked noodles into a bowl.
  2. Dump the water out and add in some oil.
  3. In the meantime, add in the soy sauce, black vinegar, chopped garlic & ginger, pepper flakes and scallions on top of the noodles.
  4. Test the oil, by dropping some aromatics into the pot. If it sizzles its ready.
  5. Pour the oil right on top of the noodles and mix to combine. Serve while hot & enjoy!

One Pot Marinara 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 big shallot
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 8 ounces of spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup of fresh basil
  • 4 cups of water
  • aged provolone
  • salt to taste
  • more fresh basil to finish
  • Olive oil to finish

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot, add in all the ingredients. Bring to a boil with the lid off & cook until the pasta had cooked.
  2. Turn the heat down once the water has mostly evaporated. Add in a pinch of salt & some cheese once its cooked.
  3. Mix to combine & serve. Finish off with some olive oil, salt, & fresh basil.
